Seventeen teams representing various companies from the public and private sectors in Zamboanga del Norte will compete for basketball supremacy in the First Inter-Company Basketball Tournament which opened on May 8, 2017 at the Andres Bonifacio College Amando B. Amatong Civic Center.

DOLE9 Regional Director Ofelia B. Domingo said that the basketball tournament is spearheaded by the DOLE Zamboanga del Norte Family Welfare Committees (ZDNFWC) in coordination with DOLE Zamboanga Peninsula Federation of Family Welfare Committees, Inc. (ZFFWC, Inc.). Held under the theme: "Pasingot sa Kaugmaon, Empleyado ug Kompanya Palig-onon, Negosyo ug Panginabuhi Pauswagon," this tournament seeks to address the Sports and Leisure dimension of DOLE Family Welfare Program (FWP) among other related dimensions which include Reproductive Health and Responsible Parenthood, Education/Gender Equality, Spirituality/Value Formation, Income Generation/Livelihood/Cooperative, Medical Health Care, Nutrition, Environment Protection, Hygiene and Sanitation, Housing and Transportation. It also aims to build camaraderie between labor and management who will participate hand-in-hand in FWP undertakings such as sports activities that will follow namely: Volleyball for women and Badminton for men and women.

The Family Welfare Committees of Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay and Isabela shall also have their own Inter-company sports events where respective winning teams shall compete in the regional level competition come November 2017.

The competing teams in ZDNFWC include: Odyssey Motors, Banco Dipolog Inc., Oval Motor Parts, Zorayda Lending Corporation, Alano & Sons Credit Corporation, Real Motors/OROCAM, Rural Bank of Rizal, Inc., Wise Harvest Feeds, LGU-Dipolog City, Bureau of Fire Protection, EJ Agrivet Supply, Jerolen Enterprises, Transcycle Inc., Cebu Pacific Air, Katipunan Bank, Dipolog Goodwill Marketing and Isaias Top Marketing Corporation.

This basketball tournament will run until July 2017 and is sponsored by: Rizal Rural Bank, Inc., Katipunan Bank, Zamboanga del Norte Electric Cooperative (ZANECO), Alano & Sons Credit Corporation, DCTGMI (VALLECER), Mediatrix Homes, Inc., Zorayda Lending Corporation, Roy Plaza Corporation, Dipolog Savers Mart, Dipolog Ragin Credit Corporation, Zaragosa Sardines, Andres Bonifacio College, Saint Vincent's College, and ZN Cooperative Bank.
