Dipolog City - The Department of Labor and Employment Zamboanga Del Norte Field Office (ZDNFO) successfully made way the "PAGANDAHIN ANG BUHAY NG MGA KASAMBAHAY", a learning session to celebrate the ARAW NG MGA KASAMBAHAY through skills training on basic cosmetology and housekeeping on February 18, 2015 at Top Plaza Hotel, Dipolog, Zamboanga del Norte.
Ms. Lourdes B. Amores, Chief LEO, Head of DOLE ZDNFO welcomed the participants and gave the overview of the Republic Act 10361 known as "Domestic Workers Act or "Batas Kasambahay," an act instituting policies for the protection and welfare of domestic workers. At the same time, she reminded the domestic helpers of their responsibilities and assured them that the Department is fully monitoring the implementation of the said act.
The participants learned techniques in basic housekeeping with the aid of Ms. Carmela Tizon, Housekeeping Head of Top Plaza Hotel. Ms. Tizon made the job look easy in spite of the intricacies after the sweaty ordeal of the helpers during the workshop. Majority of the participants displayed their efficiency in their routines which made Michelle Luntayao and Rosegen Manaytay, both kasambahay participants, awardees on Best in Housekeeping.
To ensure that our "kasambahays" will go home from the enticing activity inspired and well-groomed, ZDNFO provided the participants with make-up kits for them to practice on proper application of cosmetics that will also contribute to the total well being of the kasambahays. Ms. Kathlyn Hamoy, owner of Cut Culture and an instructress of IBSA, led the makeover with her expertise on beauty care. Jeza L. Beteran and Meralyn Delarmente got the awards in this category.
"Nakatabang sa amo ang kani nga training, Nakaamgo ko nga mas daghan pa diay ang akong pwdeng matun-an ug mabuhat, dili lang ang pagka katabang sa panimalay, naa pa koy maabot kung maningkamot ra jud. Dapat pud diay akong asikasuhon ang akong kaugalingon" (The training helped us a lot, I realized that there's so much yet to learn and do aside from being a kasambahay, there's so much I can reach in life through hardwork, above all, I should also take care of myself ), says Lida Jamito. Salamat kay gihatagan mi ninyu ug bili", (Thank you for giving us worth) Mary Mae Laranjo added.
The activity ended with the awarding of certificates, and rewards were given to the early bird and active participants who volunteered in most activities. Ms. Aileen Mondejar expressed her gratitude to the participants for responding and joining the celebration.
Ultimately, R.A. 10361 will serve the interest of our kasama sa bahay and aims to strengthen respect, protection, and promotion of the rights and welfare of the kasambahays. "Pagandahin ang buhay ng mga Kasambahay."
