Zamboanga City - The armed stand- off between security forces of the national government and the armed forces of the Moro National Liberation Front- Misuari faction last September 9, 2013 resulted to widespread destruction of properties including displacement of thousands of City residents.
Department of Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis- Baldoz in a meeting with Zamboanga City Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco- Salazar last November 12, 2013, has committed to extend overseas employment facilitation assistance to those identified as internally-displaced male persons aged 18-35 years old who are residents of the eight (8) directly affected barangays of Sta. Barbara, Sta. Catalina, Rio Hondo, Mampang, Arena Blanco, Kasanyangan, Mariki, and Talon-Talon.
Last June 9, 2014, two (2) recruitment agencies namely SPEED Continental Employment Agency and Joseline Manpower Agency conducted the interview of prospective applicants who are IDPs at the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) office.
On August 8-9, 2014, during the jobfair held at Mampang, Zamboanga City, five (5) recruitment agencies namely HORAS Human Resources and Recruitment Agency, Mivian International Manpower Aggregate Inc., MHD Manpower and Human Development Inc., SPEED Continental Employment Agency Inc., and Zontar Manpower Services Inc. conducted another round of interview to prospective applicants.
As a result, twelve (12) Internally-displaced Persons (IDP) have so far been deployed for overseas employment per report from Labatt Adam Musa, Special Projects Coordinator of the National Reintegration Center for OFWs (NRCO) in Region 9.
The 12 IDPs are from barangays Talon- Talon and Sta. Catalina, who will work in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) as loaders, stockers, and CAD operators.
Meanwhile, Officials of the Ministry of Health, KSA, together with the POEA staff based in Manila are expected to arrive in Zamboanga City on August 25, 2014 to conduct a three-day interview with applicants who are Nurses, Radiation Technologists, and Radiologic Technicians. The MOH-KSA has announced hundreds of medical-related vacancies early in July, 2014.
These efforts are part of the DOLE's strategy to facilitate placement of workers by providing opportunities to work overseas and earn income so they can support their families and contribute to the country's economic growth.
