PUBLIC AND PRIVATE PARTNERS UNITE FOR LABOR DAY 2014

The Zamboanga Sibugay TIPC in collaboration with the Department of Labor and Employment Sibugay Field Office has once again successfully conducted the 2014Labor Day in honor of our workforce in Zamboanga Sibugay. The theme for this year's celebration is 'Sa Sipag, Tiyaga, at Talino, BuongMundoSaludosaManggagawang Pilipino.', an affirmation of the talent and greatness of the Filipino workforce as a strong pillar of the nation's development.
For more than 4 years now the Zamboanga Sibugay TIPC took the lead in the preparation and conduct of the Labor Day in partnership with the St. Joseph Parish of Ipil which also celebrates their parochial fiesta every May 1 in honor of St. Joseph the Patron Saint of Workers. This dual celebration has made a mark in the socio-cultural development of the province as every year people anticipates for this twin celebration.
Highlighting the event is the hosting of the Livelihood and DiskwentoFair from April 29 - May 01, 2014 at the Bishop's Residence Compoundand the awarding of Livelihood Project Grant amounting to Php 430,530.00, to SULO AGRARIAN REFORM BENEFICIARIES MULTI-PURPOSE COOPERATIVE (SARBEMCO) rubber workers for the enhancement of their Commissary and Refreshment Center and Php 321, 800 to the RIVERSIDE WOMEN MULTI-PURPOSE COOPERATIVE (RWMPC) for the enhancement of their Dried Fish Production Project. The LGU of Ipil headed by Mayor Alibutdan also awarded the MRDP-CFAD projects amounting to more than 1 million pesos to 10 farmer/fisherfolk groups in Ipil.
To make the celebration more fun and colorful the TIPC has also organized the Worker's Got Talent Contest, 2014 Labor Day King and Queen Coronation, and Raffle Bonanza. These activities are in close collaboration with DTI, the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) and the private sector.
This year's total sales of the Livelihood and Diskwento Fair reached up to 232,540 participated by 13 establishments. It is estimated that around 1,000 workers has benefited the discounted goods. To pump up sales of the fair, the organizers have included a raffle bonanza which entitles a buyer to a raffle ticket for every 100 pesos purchase of goods. Door prizes were provided by the local establishments in Ipil in support to the Labor Day. In the fundraising event of the TIPC through Labor Day King and Queen Coronation, they were able to collect at least 6,000 pesos which will be used in their operations and activities.
The talent contest was the crowd's favorite as 4 entries vied for this year's Got Talent Title. The defending champion, GARBEMCO Rubber Workers, outlasted the other three competitors by performing a beautiful Hula Dance. Other entries also showed their dancing and singing skills.
The afternoon Labor Day program was graced by important personalities from the Local Government and National Agencies. Present during the event were Congresswoman Ann K. Hofer of the 2nd district of Sibugay, Mayor Eldwin M. Alibutdan of Ipil, OIC-ARD Albert Gutib of DOLE 9, Engr. Peter Anadalahao, ARD of DA-9. The activity ended at 5:00 o'clock in the afternoon by having a group picture of the TIPC and the DOLE personnel.
