“Knowledge is Power” – DOLE Intensifies Career Guidance and Employment Coaching

Pagadian City - Thousands of graduating students in the tertiary level will be celebrating their joy of success in completing their chosen course and career. Likewise, the pioneers of the K to 12 Program shall also be taking a step forward to Senior High to be regarded as Completers. All these impressive accomplishments of the growing youth shall be happening this month of March, the earliest.

With such celebration carries an appalling emotion that on the other side of the coin lies another journey in their lives. For the college graduating, the lingering employment questions will always be of primary issue.

Of this renaissance, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) intensified the conduct of Career Guidance and Employment Coaching (CGEC) throughout the intended audience. Such advocacy is conducted in convergence of our partner guidance counselors and career advocates of different public and private institutions.

This government initiative is a tool in addressing composed questions within the minds of the youth. Through Career Guidance and Employment Coaching (CGEC), it will impart knowledge which will now be their power on the possible crafting of their future for success. Through CGEC, ideas will be revealed to the youth about which of which will yield the most probable option for victory.

For the potential graduating students, through employment coaching, they shall be made ready to acquaint with various opportunities and challenges abound in the world of work. Fresh graduates and jobseekers will be equipped with knowledge as to how and where they could land the best jobs given the right information, the right chances and the right choices. They may even opt to be the Boss of their own entrepreneurial business undertaking or practice of profession, or upgrade their skills and qualifications, pursuing technical-vocational or advance courses of their fields. This coaching is combined with special topics on Job Opportunities, Work Ethics and Basic Workers’ Rights, and Mock-Job Interview. Most often, choosing the right opportunity will spell the distinction between success or failure.

For the completers, students shall also be guided through the Labor Market Information (LMI) to guide them in deciding career and career changes. To this group, the youth, they could select the most profitable career choices of their own. Informing them the various highly in-demand and hard-to-fill occupations as a guide of what career choice they could make prosper with.

In Zamboanga del Sur, several institutions conducted Career Guidance and Employment Coaching for the good and benefit of their students as early as February of 2016, among these: Aurora Pioneers Memorial College (APMC), Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Government College, WMSU-Molave, Saint Columban College (SCC), Eastern Mindanao College of Technology (EMCOTECH), Zamboanga del Sur Maritime Institute of Technology (ZSMIT), Holy Child Academy (HCA), and around Six Campuses including the main of Josefina Herrera Cerilles State College (JHCSC) situated in different municipalities in the province of Zamboanga del Sur participated by around 2,000 students on different dates and venues. Of the mentioned institutions, is joined with the competent DOLE ZDSFO personnel as Resource Speakers namely: Mr. Fortunato O. Magsayo, Senior LEO; Mr. Butch Jason C. Tormis, LEO II; Maribel L. Ramos, LEO I, along with the class advisers, teachers and faculties, guidance counselors and career advocates. Apart from this, there are also school-initiated CGEC activities hosted with their invited competent speakers.

Conveying to them the knowledge into the world of work is like granting them power to craft the most desiring future they want to achieve. All these, brought the insight and wisdom to battle and triumph over the enemies – jobs mismatch and unemployment. This initiative of the Department is founded on their mission to develop human resource such that addressing various issues towards growth, development and success.
