Fri, Aug 09, 2013 (Source: DOLE Zambo del Norte)
“Give a man a fish and he eats for a day, Teach him how to fish and he eats for a lifetime-” an inspiring message from Regional Director Sisinio B. Cano during the turn-over ceremony of DOLE Kabuhayan Starter Kits on July 26, 2013 to Seven (7) International Hospitality Management (IHM) students of Saint Vincent’s College (SVC), Dipolog City who graduated last March 2013. DOLE and SVC entered into a Memorandum of Agreement last September 29, 2012 for the effective and full implementation of the Youth Entrepreneurship Support (YES) under the Working Youth Center (WYC) Program.

WYC program aims to provide livelihood opportunities to young or would-be workers, providing them capital assistance and Income Generating Projects on innovative business which will ensure the fullest development of the young workers’ potentials and productivity rather than the usual option for wage employment.

The beneficiaries came up with project proposals after they have undergone one (1) day training on “Entrepreneurship Awareness and How to Make Project Proposals” initiated by Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) together with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) on February 2, 2013. Proposals on Food Processing worth P12, 500.00 each was approved by DOLE through Start-up Kits or for a total of Eighty Seven Thousand Five Hundred (P87,500.00) for the Blanched Halo-Halo, CM’s Burger, Food/Snacks Preparation, 3 Homemade Siomai and Refreshments and Nata de Coco Production.

A dream come true for these seven (7) beneficiaries manifested by the signs of happiness and excitement drawn in their faces as they received their tools and sets of equipment. They were thankful for the realization of their business thru the grants provided by the YES Program of DOLE.

Director Cano challenged the beneficiaries to be successful in their self-employment endeavor by making a difference in their respective projects.
