Wed, Mar 23, 2016 (Source: ZDNFO)
The workers of Torrentos Furniture, Olingan, Dipolog City will now get to enjoy a harmonious workplace relationship with the recent conduct of Labor Relations, Human Relations and Productivity Seminar held right inside the premises of the said company on February 29, 2016 which was attended by all its rank-and-file and managerial employees.

On February 22, 2016, two of the company’s piece-rate workers filed a request for assistance with DOLE-ZDNFO which essentially sought for relief concerning management’s alleged employment malpractices. After assessing the actual conditions of employment, the office deemed it appropriate to conduct an in-house capability-building seminar designed to appease the growing tension among affected workers who would likely to be displaced if not abated immediately.

The LHP seminar is DOLE’s contribution in the labor education and advocacy aspect to address the challenge of business competitiveness in the workplace. It espouses and inculcates adherence to labor laws, harmonizes work relations and provides tools and techniques for global competitiveness.

Leading the battery of resource speakers was Mr. Franklin T. Rivera, Labor Laws Compliance Officer, DOLE-ZDNFO who, in substance, tackled about labor relations and gave emphasis that piece-rate workers may also acquire the status of regular employees if their job is found to be necessary and desirable in the business of the company. Ms. Megajane S. Ligutom, Labor and Employment Officer II of the same office advocated on the productivity programs of the department. During the open forum, management expressed their appreciation for the timely intervention of DOLE saying that the clarifications on matters of employment effectively improved the working environment of the company.

In a quoted statement, DOLE-9 Director Sisinio B. Cano said that this is a testament that the applicability and flexibility in the implementation of DOLE Programs had substantially changed the way labor disputes are handled. Ultimately, the overarching goal of de-clogging of docketed cases in the department would become a pleasing reality.
