“Its Jobs Fair everyday in Ipil.” This was the statement of Mayor Eldwin A. Alibutdan during the opening program of the Jobs Congress event held in Ipil last July 21, 2015. Mayor Alibutdan was referring to the New Generation Job Search Kiosk (JSK) installed in the lobby of the Municipal Hall that providesfree services to jobseekersin the Municipality and other nearby towns. The JSK in Ipil was formally launched by Regional Director Sisinio B. Cano and Mayor Eldwin A. Alibutdan during the Jobs Congress event.

The JSK is an information portalthat provides information on local or overseas job opportunities and other employment-related information like career guides of the Bureau of Local Employment (BLE), status and validity of license of overseas recruitment agencies of the Philippine Overseas Employment Agency (POEA), professional license validation of the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC) and upgrading of skills by Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). The deployment of the kiosks in strategic areas was aimed at addressing job mismatch and unemployment problems of the country.

Aside from the launching of the kiosk, LGU-Ipil also initiated a “Jobs Congress” wherein local employers, government agencies, and overseas recruitment agencieswereinvited to post their vacancies and conduct initial interview to potential applicants. Five local employers from Zamboanga City, Zamboanga Del Norte and ZamboangaSibugay posted a total of 287 job vacancies and one government agency, the BIR-Ipil RD, posted 50 vacant job order positions. A total of 293 applicants registered to this one-day event in which 182 applicants qualified for the local job positions subject for additional screening and examination. There were also 18 applicants that were “Hired on the Spot” for overseas work.

Mayor Alibutdan also gave high praises to the DOLE for the outstanding implementation of its employment programs aimed at reducing poverty and support economic growth in the municipality of Ipil. Aside from the conduct of Jobs Fair and implementation of Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) he was appreciative of the efforts of the DOLE by not only focusing on labor relations and labor standards issues but also in providing livelihood support for group and individual projects to the informal sectors and emergency employment to the unemployed. This year, 36 beneficiaries from Ipil benefited from the DOLE Kabuhayan Starter Kits, 13 unemployed were hired under the Emergency Employment Program (TUPAD) and 3 Government Interns were assigned in the LGU for personnel complement.

Regional Director Sisinio B. Cano also graced the event and congratulated LGU-Ipil and Mayor Alibutdan for the initiative to hold a Jobs Congress with the theme “PadayonsaKadauganIpil!” in celebration of its 66th Founding Anniversary. He posted a challenge to the jobseekers in order for them to become a viable applicant by continuing to upgrade their skills and to take full advantage of the Job Kiosk or the PhilJobnet for faster access on labor market information. He also called for a strong and sustained collaboration and partnership from local establishments and the LGU for the implementation of employment programs of the DOLE.
