CSHP APPLICATIONS Seen Growth in 2013
Thu, Oct 03, 2013 (Source: DOLE IX)
Considering Construction Industry is the most hazardous workplace in our economy, the Department of Labor and Employment Region 9 (DOLE RO9) underscored the partnership with Zampen Occupational Safety and Health Network, Inc. (ZampenOSHNet, Inc.), Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC), and the Employees Compensation Commission (ECC) in developing strategies of improving and sustaining implementation of DO 13—which govern compliance to Construction Safety and Health Program (CSHP) prior to execution of projects to ensure safety & health of workers.

Series of Construction Safety Trainings have been conducted in Provinces, Cities and Municipalities of this region from 2012 to present. Also, Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) caravans were undertaken to increase awareness of the stakeholders in the industry.

As a result, compliance to OSH Program has increased based on the CSHP applications received and processed by the Office.

For the two reference periods (January to August 31 of 2012 and 2013) there was an increase of 32% as to the number of applications received.

DOLE RO9 OIC-Regional Director Sisinio B. Cano stressed that massive campaigns and advocacy of Occupational Safety and Health in the construction triggered the increase in number of CSHP submitted for evaluation and approval.

Nonetheless, the opening and operation of the Training Center for Construction Workers is regularly pursuing to encourage contractors in capacitating their workers on the importance of construction safety and health. This is free of charge and the venue is at the DOLE9 Regional Office. The conduct will be scheduled as soon as it reaches the minimum number of participants, RD Cano, added.

129 approved CSHP as of August 2012 vs. 171 approved CSHP as of August 2013.
