“Sacrifice first before pleasure”. This is a favorite motto of a girl who had been a survivor of a great disaster (not of the earth but brought by life). The name was Maribel L. Ramos. She was young and innocent then when great responsibility had already been entrusted after her father had passed away at her early age. But that didn’t hinder her (who was the youngest in the eight siblings) to pursue her simple small dream of becoming a government employee.

Through the help of the people closed to her family, she finished elementary and secondary. Her next dilemma is how to enter college, knowing that college education is not easy because it is more expensive. However, she was always positive in her belief that in every trial, there are also blessings that may come. It is just a matter of perseverance and sacrifice.

One summer vacation, she had been one of the lucky people who was chosen and became a beneficiary of the program of DOLE in Ramon Magsaysay, Zamboanga del Sur. Her income as Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) worker really helped her a lot in preparing for college education, knowing that the income of her mother who was a former president of the Ramon Magsaysay Bamboo craft Association-RAMAGBA (a beneficiary of the livelihood program) cannot almost meet both ends. She was assigned in the Civil Registrar’s Office encoding, typing and filing Registry of Birth, Marriage and Death Certificates in the said Municipality. Her performance in said office led her way for another year as SPES beneficiary until she graduated her course of Bachelor of Science in Office Administration last March 2009 and lucky enough to make it in the career service professional exam last July 2010.

Now, another level life has just started. With the perseverance and sacrifice she had practiced and displayed, she was accepted and joined the DOLE last February 1, 2013 as a contractual employee (Job Order) for the Skills Registry System assigned at the Zamboanga del Sur Field Office, Pagadian City.

While she has started reaping the fruit of her sacrifice, the motto that guided her still in her heart and mind. It is because she still hope that another milestone in her career be in place especially if she can already be permanently employed being an eligible one.
