190 HOTS, 16% Placement Rate for DOLE ZamPen Region Job Fairs

Zamboanga City–The celebration of the 111th Labor Day in various areas of Zamboanga Peninsula spelled “SUCCESS” to the Department of Labor and Employment Region 9 (DOLE- RO-9), as 2,269 jobseekers trooped to the four (4) job fair venues, registering 190 applicants hired on the spot, achieving a placement rate of 16%.

Ninety–six (96) employers, 40 for overseas and 56 local, posted a total of 85,291 vacancies, both for overseas and local employment. Of the 2,269 applicants, 1,203 were qualified and referred for interview, and 193 applicants were referred to the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) for further training.

Other government agencies such as SSS, PHIC, HDMF, and NSO also participated in the Job fair to promote their programs and services.

During the celebration, various activities have also been conducted in different areas of Zamboanga Peninsula, to mention, the turn–over of Livelihood grants to fifty (50) grouped beneficiaries in the amount of Php631,405.00. For Kabuhayan Starter Kits, twenty-five (25) beneficiaries received various tools, materials, jigs, and equipment, with a total amount of Php328,933.00.

Eight (8) associations participated in the 2013 Livelihood Fair with total sales of Php23,798.00. These worker’s associations, who displayed their local products, were beneficiaries of DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP).

The Diskwento Fair, in partnership with the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), was joined by ten (10) companies earning a total sales of Php55,802.00, benefitting 478 customers.

Further, 559 Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) grantees were also in the highlight, receiving a total amount of Php1,650,614.00 representing 40% share of their salary from DOLE.

Other activities include the Jog and Walk for Industrial Peace held at Isabela City, Basilan, last May 1, 2013. Five hundred eighty-eight (588) workers, who actively participated in the said undertaking, also received packs of grocery items. Part of the activity was the conferment of the Most Outstanding Employee award to twenty–one (21) employees who contributed significant accomplishments in their respective workplaces. The awardees received plaques of appreciation and prizes courtesy of the Isabela City Tripartite Industrial Peace Council (ICTIPC).
