Pagadian City – This year’s 112th Labor Day Celebration with the theme: “Sa Sipag, Tiyaga at Talino, Buong Mundo ay Saludo sa Manggagawang Pilipino” was simply carried out in this city. We celebrate Labor Day in order to pay tribute to all working men and women, who contributed in bringing prosperity to our country and better future for their respective families. It is also in this occasion that the entire nation is honoring the achievements that labor has added to production and the standard of living, which brought us closer to the realization of economic and political stability. Truly, the Department of Labor and Employment Zamboanga Del Sur Field Office (DOLE-ZSDFO) took the opportunity to give workers a break (in their day-to-day work), organize an event for them held at covered court Plaza Luz, Pagadian City on May 1, 2014 starting at 1:00 in the afternoon.

The activity was formally opened with a motorcade headed by the DOLE-ZDSFO. It was participated in by 24 vehicles coming national government agencies, LGUs and private establishments with not less than 180 workers coming from participating agencies both from the private and public institutions here in Pagadian City, namely; Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), LGU-Pagadian City, Philippine Information Agency (PIA), Public Employment Service Office, City Press Bureau, Provincial Press Bureau, ZAMSURECO-I, Professional Regulation Commission, Santiago Laborers Association (SLA), Gaisano Capital, Best Emporium, Imperial Appliance, etc.

Mrs. Lourdes B. Amores, Chief LEO/ZDSFO Head, inspiringly conveyed her message to the group. She emphasized the importance of harmonious relationship between workers and employers in all workplaces, to include those in the informal economy. Furthermore, she recognized the industrial stability of Pagadian City for having maintained strike-free city.

The Labor Day messages of our very own President Benigno S. Aquino III and DOLE Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis- Baldoz to all hardworking Filipinos, which were likewise viewed through multimedia presentation.

Verily, the event will not be completed without the message of our ever supportive Mayor Romeo P. Pulmones, but due to his time conflict, Hon. Bienvenido C. Culve delivered his message on his behalf. The good Mayor’s message limelighted his grandeur salutes to all Filipino workers who are hardworking and service-oriented, and apparently, who were acknowledged not only in our country but in the whole world. He also asserted that such credit must be given to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) for its meritorious initiatives and unflinching efforts in the pursuit of workers welfare and development.

To heighten public awareness on DOLE’s programs and services, the Labor Education and Employment Services (LEES) video clips were played, information desks on DOLE and family of agencies’ programs and services were set-up, and educational friendship games were carried out on the said occasion.

Mrs. Edna R. Dalena, TIPC Vice-Chairman for Management laudably expressed her heartwarming gratitude to the event key players; the government agencies, the management and laborers, and ultimately, the DOLE staff for making the activity not just a memorable one, but a successful one as well.

Indeed, the celebration did not only raise client’s awareness on DOLE’s programs and services, but it also transcends camaraderie among partners, both from the public and private sector; the management, laborers and the DOLE staff.
