Isabela City, Basilan. In the spirit of restoring one’s dignity and providing opportunities to integrate again into the community, four (4) clients of the Basilan Province Parole and Probation Office were awarded with DOLE Kabuhayan Starter Kits. The beneficiaries namely: Fe B. Alingco and Pascualito D. Panagsaga, both probationers and Shamina A. Jauhari and Yashan L. Tan, dependents of client-parolee were each provided with sigh of hope in the form of tools, jigs and equipment in baking and pasties and welding apparatus in a simple turn-over ceremony on November 5 at the Red Cross Conference Hall, Port Area, this city.

DOLE 9 Regional Director Sisinio B. Cano conveyed his message in this one special occasion in the lives of the client and their immediate family saying “We are happy to be a part of this journey and story with you, hope this assistance creates a dent in your way to complete rehabilitation and recovery”.

Mr. Nelson C. Bedua, OIC of the Parole and Probation Office shared his gratitude to partners for their initiatives and efforts in re-shaping the lives of their clients which he called as ‘Family’ and challenged the recipients “alagaan at pag-yamanin ang tulong galing sa gobyerno at magsilbing modelo sa lipunan”.

Motivated by the theme “Strengthening Community based initiatives on Livelihood Development for clients through collaborative efforts of public and private agencies”, the package of services and innovative interventions were made possible by Bob Tugung Foundation, Department of Education Alternative Learning System (DepEd ALS), Technical Education Skills and Development Authority (TESDA) ARMM, Basilan Province Parole and Probation Office and Department of Labor and Employment Isabela City Field Office. As a preparatory activity, the recipients together with 21 other have undergone Skills Training on Baking and Pastries for 25 days facilitated by DepEd ALS and TESDA ARMM last April 2014 and a Learning Session on OSH and Record Keeping on October 15 facilitated by DOLE together with other informal sector participants.

This convergence capped the National Correctional Consciousness Week celebration anchoring on the theme “Pag-unawa at Pagtanggap Mo, Susi sa Pagbabago Ko” and roughly a month before the Christmas Season, a truly meaningful assistance just fitting for the holidays thus, says one of the Volunteer Probation Aide documenting the event.

“Because you worked for it, kaya nabiyayaan kayo ngayon…libre ang hangin at ilog, pero kailangan natin kumilos, gumalaw at kakasa…” thus , says Mr. Henry R. Tura, the DepEd ALS supervisor during his closing remarks.

The agencies present committed to assist DOLE in the regular monitoring of these livelihood packages to ensure “na may kwento ang bawat kwenta”.

In a related development, 56 informal sector beneficiaries - from parents of child laborers to displaced workers also received various Pangkabuhayan Starter Kits in the total amount of Php 412, 745.00 last October 29 at the Isabela City Hall Complex with Mayor Cherrylyn Santos-Akbar as our Guest of Honor.
