OWWA RWO IX RELEASES ASSISTANCE FOR AFFECTED OFWs EMPLOYED BY SAUDI COMPANIES

ZAMBOANGA CITY - The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration - Regional Welfare Office IX (OWWA RWO9) has started to release financial assistance to affected OFWs from Saudi Arabia thru the KSA-Relief Assistance Program (KSA-RAP).
A one-time cash assistance of Php 20,000.00 is extended to affected OFWs who are either staying in camps or live-out in KSA, or have been repatriated to the Philippines, but have not received their salaries or end-of-service benefits while their families in the Philippines are entitled to receive cash assistance of Php 6,000.00. The RAP is designed to cushion the impact of forced unemployment and income displacement affecting OFWs in Saudi Arabia and their families.
Qualified to avail of the RAP are affected OFWs employed by 9 companies in KSA namely; Mohammed al-Mojil Group (MMG);Saudi Bin Laden Group of Companies (SBG); Saudi Oger Ltd. (SOL); Mohammad Hameed Al-Bargash& Bros. Trading & Construction; Aluminum Company (ALUMCO L.L.C.); Rajeh H. Al Merri Contracting Company; Arabtec Construction L.L.C.; Real Estate Development and Investment Company. However, the program's coverage has been extended to also accept applications from affected OFWs from other companies provided that they have proof of unpaid salaries and that the company is proven to have experienced financial reverses similar to that of the nine (9) companies mentioned.
As of August 26, 2016, a total of forty-one (41) beneficiaries in Region IX already received financial assistance under KSA-RAP. This figure is expected to increase over the weeks to come following the mass repatriation of workers from KSA.
