March 10, 2016
For the year 2016, the Department of Labor and Employment Region IX will be initially employing around 1,732 individuals under its Government Internship Program or GIP. The program has a total budgetary allocation of Php 37.2M which is intended for the stipend and insurance of the interns.
The recipients of the program are mostly fresh college graduates who are given the opportunity to acquire the necessary work experience. These interns will render services for six months with a daily stipend of Php 210.00 which they will receive through their Land Bank payroll account.
The interns will be deployed in various National Government Agencies, and Local Government Units/ barangays where they are expected to perform office and clerical works.
Preliminary Orientation and signing of the Memorandum of Agreement was conducted to the 1st and 2nd batch of the GIP beneficiaries last February 16, 2016 and February 17, 2016 respectively, held at City Mall, Tetuan, Zamboanga City. Majority of the beneficiaries started working last March 1, 2016, while others are still in the selection and hiring process.
DOLE RO IX Regional Director Sisinio B. Cano said that the program is a way of providing fresh college and/ or technical-vocational graduates with the opportunity to work for the government, and have the first-hand experience on how government functions in its delivery of programs and services to the public.
In 2015, DOLE RO IX has released a total of Php 5.3 million which benefitted 336 GIP beneficiaries.
The GIP aims to provide opportunities to young workers particularly those who belong to the indigent families to exhibit their skills and talents in the interest of public service.
"Maraming salamat po sa karanasan at pagkakataon na ibinigay sa amin ng DOLE na makatrabaho kami kahit kami ay fresh graduates lamang. Malaking karangalan po sa amin ang maging parte ng programang ito", expressed Ms. Roxanne J. Suarez, a GIP in 2015.
