ZAMPEN PESO Managers invade General Santos City for the 14th National PESO Congress

Giving due recognition to the PESOs through its PESO Managers in implementing Department of Labor and Employment's Facilitation Program and giving value to their extended services, the National PESO Congress, now on its 14th year, was held in General Santos City last October 22-24, 2014.
Forty-five (45) PESO Managers and five DOLE staff with Zamboanga Peninsula Regional Director Sisinio B. Cano trooped to the tuna capital of the Philippines to participate and witness the 3-day event.
The event served as an avenue for the PESOMAP Network to discuss opportunities and challenges of ASEAN integration, showing a glimpse of the PESO roadmap towards ASEAN Integration, thus preparing the PESO Managers to embrace the herculean responsibilities that they will be facing. Competent speakers were invited to discuss and present their valuable insights on the establishment of ASEAN Economic Community, particularly the role of the PESOs in the upcoming Regional Integration.
The presence of Hon. Emmanuel "Manny" Pacquiao, was felt as he gave a message of support before the conferment of the National Best PESO awards.
Zamboanga Peninsula Region did not vanish from the limelight as three regional finalists, Ms. Sylvia B. Sumondong of St. Vincent's College, Dipolog City (SUC/NGO Category), Ms. Susan G. Cabrera of LGU- RT. Lim, Zamboanga Sibugay (3rd-4th Class Municipality Category), and Ms. Otilla W. Ricablanca of Isabela City, Basilan (Component City Category) stepped the center stage to receive plaques of special citation. The crowd was inspired with the presence of Hon. Karlo Alexei Nograles who is the guest of honor during the awards night.
During the congress, the Local Chief Executive's good practices in PESO institutionalization were recognized, and successful Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) babies gave their testimonies on how the SPES program, through the intervention of the PESOs greatly shaped their careers.
Further, the fellowship night was indeed glamorous as PESO Managers and DOLE Officials marched their way with their dazzling Fantasy costumes. The festivity was hosted by General Santos Mayor Ronnel Rivera. During the night, DOLE Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz enlightened the crowd by delivering the message of support of Pres. Benigno "Noynoy" S. Aquino III.
As bottles of wines spread the KCC convention hall and so with tuna sashimi's, the PESOMAP officers and DOLE officials rendered a toast of success to the wonderful achievements of the PESO Managers. Hon. Juan Edgardo Angara was also the Guest of Honor during the night.
The night became more glitzy because of the Search for Mr. and Ms. PESO. Region 9's PESO Manager Zosimo P. Amba of PESO-Rizal bagged the Best in fantasy attire. Mr. Ryan Victor Miranda of PGO-Dipolog and Ms. Gay Iris T.S. Tangcalagan, Regional PESO Focal, both emerged as the Face of the Night.
The 3-day event ended with an optional tour to various tourist destinations in General Santos City.
