OWWA IX - Sustaining Development among OFWs in ZamPen

OWWA IX had successfully conducted project monitoring and trainings on organizational development, financial literacy, and entrepreneurial development in Zamboanga Peninsula last August 27 to September 3, 2014.
The activities were intended for the beneficiaries of 10k OWWA's livelihood assistance program for returned OFWs to the country who were displaced and distressed.
The team visited 29 project beneficiaries on site in the cities of Dipolog and Dapitan and other adjacent barangays. The objectives of the monitoring activity were to check on the progresses and achievements of the projects and to help the beneficiaries to recognize the need for improvement. Prior to the project monitoring, the OWWA team met with fifteen (15) OFWs who have availed OWWA's livelihood programs at CL Inn's Conference hall, Dipolog City. They were also joined by 30 more participants who were given an orientation with OWWA's programs and services. The OWWA team was led by Regional Director, Hassan Gabra T. Jumdain.
During the week travel, two-day trainings on organizational development, financial literacy and entrepreneurial development were given to sixty five (65) former OFWs at Roan's Pension House Conference Hall, Municipality of Kabasalan. The participants have undergone business plan preparation to help them identify what type of business they would want to venture. The said training were coordinated with the Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP) represented by Ms. Zeny Valencia ; Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) represented by Ms. Thelma L. Ceniza; Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Church Kabasalan, headed by Rev. Fr.Leo Salomes; and Diocese of Ipil Pastoral Care of Migrant Families and Itinerant People, led by Ms. Virginia Molina.
The team was also welcomed at St. Joseph College of Sindangan Institute together with their Executive President, Rev. Fr. Nathaniela Denloso, Dr. Noel Galeza and Edralin Delena. An open forum was conducted with fifty five (55) participants composed of OWWA's scholars and their dependents. The students have the chance to address their concerns personally to the Director.
Director Jumdain, in his message said, "The world is very competitive and we don't have a choice but to compete. Take advantage of your leisure time and work hard to be successful."
Another meeting was also organized at Jose Rizal Memorial State University (JRMSU) in Dapitan city discussing the status of OWWA scholars.
Along with the activities, Order of the Knights of Rizal led by Mr. Alemarlou Dagpin, Chapter President, had a meeting with Dir. Jumdain highlighting the probability of having a Family Day Celebration on December 30 at Dipolog City.
The next monitoring of project sites is scheduled on September 16 to 19, 2014. Mr. Leonilo Daymiel, OWWA III, PSD head, will lead the monitoring including the delivery of the signed MOU in the provinces of Zamboanga Sibugay and Zamboanga del Norte.
