WOMEN EVACUEES, DISPLACED WORKERS GET FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT TRAINING

In order to make women's livelihoods more effective and self-sustaining, the DOLE-ZCFO and the LGU-Zamboanga City PESO conducted a training on Basic Business Management And Values Formation last February 4-5 at the City social Welfare and Development Office Conference room in Petitt Barracks, Zamboanga City.
The activity, participated by a total of 46 partakers (44 female and 2 males), and earlier identified as recipients for Starter Kit projects came from the barangays of Sta. Catalina, Rio Hondo, Kasanyangan, Talon-Talon, Guiwan, La Paz and Labuan . Most of the participants were displaced due to Zamboanga City Crisis and some were due to immense closure of the different canning and manufacturing companies in the City.
Mr. Ian A Lahi, Chief LEO of DOLE in Zamboanga City, said the two-day course outline was intended to train participants with Basic Business Management and to form and recover ones values; provide basic knowledge on Simple bookkeeping and Recording; for the participants apply basic knowledge on business management by recording transactions; provide information on Social protection and benefits and encourage participants to enroll in respective Social Protection agency; and provide information regarding Programs and services of the different government agencies and the PHilHealth, a social security provider.
Resource speakers tapped from different agencies were DWSD-Project Development Office II represented by Nursida A. Taraji-Sarail and Manuel Caermare on the topic Basic Business Management or Enterprise Development, TESDA represented by Maluo Ulayan, who spoke about TESDA programs and services, PhilHealth represented by Rafael Sta. Teresa,talked about Social Health benefits and the advantages of Philhealth membership. DOLEwas represented by Sylvia C. Delos Santos speaker on Values Formation and Application.
The funds for the Starter Kits and other emergency wage employment programs came from the Bottoms-Up-Budgeting system which the DOLE transferred to the LGU Zamboanga City.
