Zamboanga City Federation of Family Welfare Committee intensifies support to DOLE's programs and services
July 26, 2013
In observance of the 39th Nutrition Month Celebration with the theme "Gutom at Malnutrisyon, Sama-Sama Nating Wakasan," the Zamboanga City Family Welfare Committee (ZCFWC) facilitated the Seminar on Hunger and Malnutrition and the Orientation on Family Welfare Program for the new committee Focal and Alternate persons held last July 19, 2013 at Marcian Garden Hotel, Zamboanga City.
Mr. Ian Lahi, Chief LEO, head of the DOLE Zamboanga City Field Office, delightfully welcomed the 34 participants from active FWCs of the different private companies in the city composed of nurses and human resource managers.
ARD Virginia Bonbon, citing the 9.2% increase on hunger based on the 1st quarter hunger survey for 2013 of the Social Weather Station, encouraged the participants to heighten awareness on hunger and malnutrition issues and actions to lessen its present condition in our country. She added that "our government placed policies and programs to deal with hunger and malnutrition, but, of course we encourage you to contribute on undertaking hunger and promoting stronger political action to mitigate or better yet, to end it." She also threw out a challenge to let nutrition start at home; making sure the family is nourished and healthy to live a productive life ahead.
Ms. Ma. Del Pilar Pamela Tarroza, Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator of the National Nutrition Council (NNC), discussed about hunger and malnutrition issues and actions to alleviate our country's present condition. She stressed out that government's eagerness to diminish or if not, eradicate hunger led to the strengthening of the full implementation of its policies and programs.
Ms. Evelyn Capistrano, Nutrition & Dietician II of the Center for Health & Development, talked about the importance of exclusive breastfeeding and young child feeding. She also emphasized on the proper nutrition of pregnant women.
Tasked to orient the new focal persons and alternates, Mrs. Ana Lucia Candil, President of the ZCFWC and ZamPen Federation of Family Welfare Committees briefly shared DOLE's programs and services on family welfare; updating everyone with the accomplishments and coming activities.
The day did not cease without everyone pumping up the jam as they stretched and danced during the wellness exercises. The activity ended with the awarding of certificates of appreciation to Ma. Cristina Wee, Physical Education Director of ZCSPC, for giving her time and effort to lead the wellness exercise; and to Ms. Candil for her dedication in the implementation of the Family Welfare Program.
