May 15, 2013
Zamboanga City -Parallel to the goal and output of the National Career and Advocacy Congress (NCAC) which aims to capacitate and equip career guidance providers (i.e. Network of Guidance Counselors, Guidance Counselors, public and private, Career Guidance Advocacy Program member-agencies, industries, and other stakeholders) with up-to-date labor market information for their use in the effective and efficient delivery of career guidance to the main clients, students, and jobseekers, the Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office - 9 (DOLE RO-9) will spearhead the 1st Regional Career Advocacy Congress on May 23-24, 2013, at Astoria Hotel, Zamboanga City.
With the theme, "Follow the Guide. Tag a Career. Like the Future," the congress will involve presentations on current trends in employment, industries, and good practices of Network of Guidance Counselors (NGC) in the region, among others.
The presentations will highlight the need for guidance counselors in guiding the youth of their career choices, ways to improve services by NGCs, making Labor Market Information (LMI) more accessible to data users, and opening the eyes of the youth.
The congress will focus on industries which are predetermined by the Project Jobsfit (PJF) in order to give specific and concrete data on the industries present in the region. It is also an avenue of informing the youth of the in-demand and hard-to-fill occupations in the regional level which may suit their interest.
Based on the results of the Project Jobsfit (PJF): the DOLE 2020 Vision, key industries which are seen to generate employment and absorb bulk of the workforce in years to come have been identified.
